Prayer is worship of Allah (God). Muslims have to make salah 5 times a day. Before Salah, Muslims prepare themselves by performing Wudu (Ablution) which involves cleaning the hands, face, arms, head and feet. The basic philosophy of Islam is that no one is forced to do anything. No one can force you and you cannot force anyone. Early in building his base for Islam, Muhammad had a dream or night vision that was so unbelievable so in hadith and in the Quran when Mohammad (pbuh) visited Heaven, Allah (swt) gave him 50 prayers in day. Then Mohammad (pbuh) spoke with Moses who tells him that it is not possible and that it would be really hard to encourage his followers to do that. So after a discussions like that, Allah (swt) gave Mohammad (pbuh) 5 prayers and that what he gave his followers. It is not forced on anyone to do the five prayers but it is Gods word. All Muslims will be questioned about the prayers and the fasting and zakaat etc on the Day of Judgment.
